Set Up your Search Terms, Engines and Regions
Last updated: October 27, 2026
Search Terms are the questions Rankscale asks AI Engines for you. Each one runs on the AI Engines and in the Region you choose. Together they decide what your numbers mean, so they are worth a few minutes of thought.
How Setup Works
In the Brand Setup Wizard, you first choose the Language and Region for your Brand.
In Review your search terms, edit, deselect or regenerate the suggested Search Terms. Your first checks run on a default set of AI Engines.
After setup, you can change engines, Region and interval for each Search Term in Search Terms.

What Makes a Good Search Term
It sounds like a real question a buyer would type into an AI assistant.
It is about a need, not only your name. "Best CRM for small agencies" tells you more than "Is BrandX good?".
It matches a market you sell in, in the language people there would use. Track each market as its own Search Term.
Start with a focused set of around 10 to 20 Search Terms that covers your most important questions. Add more once you have seen a few rounds of results. More examples are in 📄 Choosing relevant Search Terms.
Mix Branded and Non-branded Search Terms
Rankscale labels each Search Term as branded or non-branded automatically, based on your brand names. Branded terms show whether AI Engines know you. Non-branded terms show whether they recommend you. On the dashboard, you can filter by Branded status in the Queries filter.
Choose AI Engines, Region and Interval
Open Configuration > Search Terms and add a Search Term, or edit an existing one.
In Tracking setup, select one or more AI engines.
Under Region, choose where to track this Search Term. Some engines also show a Language field.
Set the Tracking interval, for example Daily or Weekly.
Check the estimated usage line before you save. It shows the expected runs and Credits per month.
The available engines and what they cost in Credits are always shown in Tracking setup. For how Credits work, see 📄 Understanding Credits and Usage.
Regions and Engines to Know About
Some engines do not use a Region. In that case the field reads Not used by the selected engines.
If an engine does not support the Region you picked, the Search Term is deactivated and shows an Unsupported region badge. Choose another Region or engine to run it again.
When an Engine is Unavailable
Sometimes an AI Engine is temporarily unavailable. Rankscale then shows a notice and pauses runs on that engine. Your Search Terms and settings are kept, and charts show no new data for it until runs resume.
Keep Them Organized

Keep your Set Stable
Adding or removing many Search Terms at once changes what your totals are based on. Plan your set in the first days, then change it in planned batches. 📄 Why Trends Move When you Change Search Terms or Brand Names
Tip: Start with fewer engines and one interval for all Search Terms. Comparing results is easier when everything runs on the same schedule.
