Understanding AI visits
Last updated: October 23, 2026
AI visits shows the requests AI bots and assistants make to your website: how many there were, which bots made them, which pages they read, and which requests ended on a page that does not exist. The data comes from your Cloudflare account, so you connect Cloudflare once per brand and nothing is added to your site.
What you Need
AI visits is available on selected plans. See rankscale.ai/pricing for details. On other plans, the AI visits page shows what it includes and an Upgrade plan button.
Your website needs to run through Cloudflare. Any Cloudflare plan works, including the free plan. To connect it, you need write access to the brand and a Cloudflare login that can create API tokens for your domain. AI visits does not use credits.
Where to Find It
Go to AI visits under Insights in your brand's sidebar. Until Cloudflare is connected, the page shows the Cloudflare card with the setup steps.
Connect Cloudflare
On the AI visits page, click Create token in Cloudflare. Cloudflare opens with the token name and the permissions Rankscale needs already selected. If they are not filled in, the guide on the AI visits page lists the permissions to add.
In Cloudflare, under Account Resources, choose Include > Specific account and select the account that owns your domain.
Under Zone Resources, All zones is selected. To limit the token to one site, choose Include > Specific zone and select your domain.
Click Continue to summary, check the permissions and the domain, then click Create Token.
Copy the token. Cloudflare shows it only once.
Back in Rankscale, paste the token into the field and click Load zones.
Select your domain from the list and click Connect Cloudflare. The domain that matches your brand is marked (matches brand domain).
Rankscale then imports about the last 30 days of AI visits. When the import is done, the page fills with your data and shows Cloudflare connected under the page header.
Note: Use a Cloudflare API token. The Global API Key does not work. If the page asks you to add Zone > Analytics > Read, add that permission to the same token in Cloudflare, then connect again.
How Fresh the Data Is
After the first import, new visits are added once a day, shortly after midnight UTC. Everyone with access to the brand sees the same connection and the same data.
To update the data right away, click Refresh next to Cloudflare connected. This imports the last 30 days again. It is not available while an import is running, and you can use it once every 10 minutes. To disconnect or check which domain is connected, click Manage connection.
On a busy site, Cloudflare reports an estimate based on a sample of requests, so totals are close to, but not exactly, every request.
Your Key Numbers
Number | What it tells you | Where to look next |
|---|---|---|
Total visits | All requests from known AI bots and assistants in the selected timeframe. | Requests over time |
Live fetches | An AI assistant opened your page because someone asked it a question right then. This is the strongest sign of real demand. | AI answer retrievals |
Search crawl | Bots reading your pages so AI search and answer engines can cite them. | Pages |
Training crawl | Bots collecting your pages to train AI models. This does not send visitors directly, but it shapes what models know about you. | AI agents by category |
The change compared with the previous period appears once Rankscale has twice the selected timeframe of history. Until then, the numbers show Not enough history. Use the Timeframe, AI platform and Category filters at the top to change what the whole page shows.
Start Here: Fix the Pages AI Bots Could Not Find
If AI bots requested pages that do not exist, the line under the page header shows how many, for example "12 pages AI bots couldn't find". Click Review pages to jump to Demand signals (AI 404s). Where a close match exists on your site, Rankscale suggests a page to redirect to.
The Sections in Detail
Requests over time
A chart of AI requests in the selected timeframe, next to a donut with the same total. Switch between By platform (ChatGPT, Claude, Google and more) and By category (live fetches, search crawl and training crawl).
AI agents by category
The individual bots that visited your site, such as GPTBot or ChatGPT-User, with the company behind each one and the change compared with the previous period. Sorted by visits.
Unknown AI agent is traffic from an AI bot Rankscale does not classify yet, for example a new crawler.
Pages
The pages AI bots requested most. Each row shows which AI platforms read that page and how its visits changed compared with the previous period. Switch between all visits and a single category, or search for a page by its path.
Demand signals (AI 404s)
Pages AI bots requested that returned a 404 (page not found), with the bots that tried. These often point to broken links, old URLs that AI models still remember, or content AI expects you to have. Where a close match exists, the row suggests a page to redirect to.
Below it, AI answer retrievals shows live fetches that pulled one of your pages into an AI answer, grouped by AI platform.
Discovery files
How often AI bots checked your llms.txt, robots.txt and sitemap.xml files in the selected timeframe, and which bots checked them. These files tell bots which pages exist and which they may read.
AI Visits and Traffic
AI visits counts the requests AI bots and assistants make to your site, read from Cloudflare. Most AI bots do not run the tracking code that analytics tools rely on, which is why this data comes from Cloudflare.
Traffic brings your Google Search Console and Google Analytics 4 data into Rankscale. It shows Google searches where an AI answer may take clicks, question-style searches people use to find you, and visits from people who reach your site from AI tools. See 📄 Turning on Traffic.
The two are set up separately and can be used together. AI visits needs no preview switch.
